in Wyoming surrounded by sweeping prairie and lots of animals. Throughout her
childhood she always knew that she
wanted to work with animals.
She attended the University of Washington, and during her pre-veterinary studies, worked at a wildlife rehabilitation center, the zoo, and in a veterinary clinic. She earned her veterinary degree from Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine.
Following vet school, she completed an internship in small animal medicine and surgery at a busy emergency and referral hospital in New York. She has worked as an emergency doctor and in general practice, and has been making house calls for over 11 years.
Dr. Redfield has studied Acupuncture, Food Therapy, Chinese Herbal Therapy, and End-of-Life/Palliative Care at the Chi Institute and is passionate about integrating Western and Eastern medicine to help animals to have the best possible quality of life. His father was a zoo educator, so from a very early age, he was exposed to the fascinating world of animals. His love for animals only grew, and he earned a degree in
Biology from Northern Arizona University.
He then moved back to San Diego where he had the pleasure of working for two of
San Diego's most respected exotics veterinarians before attending
Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine
and earning his DVM degree.
During veterinary school, Dr. Rhoades traveled to Africa and helped to provide medical care to many species of wildlife, worked with sea turtles off of the Carolina coast, and completed the first ever externship at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park.
He has worked in general practice in New York and in the San Diego area, and has a special interest in preventative medicine, surgery, and client education.
We met while in veterinary school, and were married shortly
after starting our careers. We started Vets to Pets
because there is a great need for heartfelt,
compassionate, and personalized veterinary care.
Vets to Pets is truly a "Mom and Pop" endeavor
and we are happy to work together to be
able to offer in-home services
at a time of a family's and a pet's greatest need.
We have dogs, cats, tortoises, and chickens, as well as
2 human kiddos to keep our lives full and interesting!
We have a house full of beautiful beasts,
all rescues and all very special --
from a three-legged cat to a one-eyed dog to a
broken tortoise (now thriving) to a Snicket [pictured at right]
who cannot swallow due to an autoimmune disease
that makes his esophagus not work properly.
We live the human-animal bond every day
and understand the difficulty in making
hard decisions on behalf of our best friends.
As pet parents ourselves, we understand the importance
of being comfortable with the veterinary care that
our pets receive during every phase of their lives
and how very difficult end-of-life decisions can be.
When it is time to consider euthanasia, it is important that you feel you have done everything you could for your pet, while taking their own individual personality into consideration as well.
Knowing your pet as well you do gives you the best perspective
on knowing when they are ready to move on. We are here to
help you with this heart-wrenching decision and
to make the process as respectful and loving as it can be.
